Jodhaa-Akbar is a film released on February 15, 2008. It is directed and produced by Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of the Academy Award-nominated Lagaan (2001). It stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles. This film also marks the debut of newcomer Abir Abrar. Extensive research went into the making of this film which began shooting at Karjat. The film centers around the romance between the Muslim Mughal Emperor Akbar, played by Hrithik Roshan and his Hindu wife, Jodhabai, played by Aishwarya Rai. The music is composed by acclaimed music composer A. R. Rahman. The soundtrack of the movie was released on January 19, 2008.



Lagaan
Also known as Lagaan: Once upon a time in India, is a Bollywood feature film made in India. It became the third Hindi language film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (after Mother India in 1957 and Salaam Bombay! in 1989). The film, which is based on an original story by Ashutosh Gowarikar, was also directed by him. It starred Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh in the lead pair with Rachel Shelley, Paul Blackthorne and A. K. Hangal in supporting roles.
The movie, which is set in the Victorian period of the British Raj, revolves around the peasants from a barren village who are oppressed by high taxes imposed by the British. When the peasants attempt to persuade the officers to reduce the taxes, the officers put forth a proposition to the peasants. One senior officer offers them to cancel their taxes for three years if their village team beats them at cricket. After accepting this proposition, the villagers face the arduous task of learning the game and playing for a result that will change their village's destiny.
The film gathered critical acclaim and awards at several international film festivals, apart from winning many Bollywood awards. The film, which had its theatrical release on June 15, 2001 became one of the biggest hits of the summer while its DVD sales is the highest ever for a Bollywood movie.

ZUBEIDAA
Zubeidaa is a 2001 film directed by Shyam Benegal and written by Khalid Mohammed. Zubeidaa stars Karisma Kapoor, Rekha, Manoj Bajpai, Surekha Sikri, Rajat Kapoor, Lillete Dubey, Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal and Shakti Kapoor.
It is the concluding chapter in a trilogy that began with Mammo (1994) and c
ontinued with Sardari Begum (1996).
The film is based on the life on an ill-fated actress, the mother of film critic, Khalid Mohammed, who also wrote film's screenplay.
The film garnered the citation, National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and won Karishma Kapoor a Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics').

Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (or Meenaxi) is a 2004 Hindi film directed by M.F. Husain and starring Tabu, Kunal Kapoor and Raghuvir Yadav. The film centers on Hyderabad novelist Nawab, (Yadav), who is suffering from writers block. After five years and no stories, Nawab comes across an unconventional muse, Meenaxi (Tabu). The three cities referred to in the title of the film are Hyderabad, Jaisalmer and Prague. It is semi-autobiographical in some respects. There are allusions to Husain's own experiences with his muse, Madhuri Dixit.

AR RAHMAN, A BRIEF...


Allah Rakha Rahman born on January 6, 1966 as A. S. Dileep Kumar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, is a critically acclaimed award-winning composer, record producer and musician. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Indian film composers ever, and his career is considered a turning point in the history of Indian film music. Many credit him with having single-handedly revolutionized the standards of film music composition in India. He is also credited with re-energizing the popularity of Indian film music the world over.
In a career spanning over a decade, Rahman, by 2003, had sold more than one hundred million records of his film scores and soundtracks world-wide, and sold over 200 million cassettes. making him one of the world's top 25 all-time top selling recording artists; he is the only person of Indian descent on the list.
